This Chrome Extension Helps Me Write Better and Read Faster
Use this application before you post
As writers, we all understand the importance of rereading an article before clicking the green “Publish” button. If you’re like me, you will proofread repetitively because you never know, the last readthrough might be where you find a misspelling or a clearer way to state your idea.
Read Aloud, and other text-to-speech readers, help you hear your work through a different voice. Since you know what you wanted to write, it’s easy to miss a tense error or something else because your brain autocorrects it and moves on. However, this extension allows you to follow along while listening to “someone else” read your article. This is how I noticed yesterday I wrote chose instead of the intended choose, and I was able to correct it before publishing.
I am also a slow reader. I first downloaded this extension to help me consume articles faster. With Read Aloud, I am able to set the speed of the reader, so I can read faster than I usually do. You also have the option to change voice, pitch, volume, and text highlighting via the extension’s popup window.
I recently changed my reader’s voice to Google UK English Male to add some variety to my life. 😄
I have no affiliation with this extension, I just find it to be a helpful tool you might enjoy if you have never considered proofing your work with a text-to-speech reader. Read Aloud has the most reviews (2,214) in the Chome Web Store compared to the other readers at the time of publishing this article, and it has a rating of just over 4 stars.
I hope this helps! Happy reading and writing!
